Obituary:

Lorena Mae Cox Phillips passed away on March 21, 2024, in Jacksonville, Texas.

Lorena was born on May 5, 1927, to H.L. Cox and Katie Mae Boykin. She grew up in old East Dallas and attended N. R. Crozier Technical High School. Til the day of her death, she cherished enduring friendships with Betty Brooks and Mary Bono, also members of her graduating class of 1944.

Lorena was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lewis; her daughter, Sandra Lee Phillips Maris; and brother, Royce Holyfield. She is survived by her son-in-law, Gene Maris and his wife, Cindy; son, Mark Andrew Phillips and his wife, Donna; Michael Lewis Phillips and his wife, Abbey; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Phillips Bono; nephew, Mike Holyfield; 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Lorena will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Lorena excelled at scrapbooking, loved dancing, and playing cards with her friends. She and Lewis enjoyed traveling and raising their children. The Tilted Halos church group remember Lorena for her off-topic remarks. One day she was driving to a Tilted Halos meeting and commented that a man had cut her off on the way. She said sheepishly, “I shot him the finger. It was only my little finger!”

Lorena will be honored at a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church of Forney on March 28, 2024 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorena Phillips may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Forney. You may give online (from the “Give Now” button on this website) or by mailing a check to First Presbyterian Church P. O. Box 98, Forney, TX 75126 with “Lorena Phillips Memorial” in the memo line.
